Activities 2011 -2012

A band called the – Brass of Peace from Germany – did a 20 min. show in the Lutheran School for
the students. We have 22 students from the 4th grade through the 10th
in TalitaKumi School in Beit Jala. On Sunday Sept, 18th 2011 at 5:00 pm,
there was a concert in TalitaKumi for the parents.
On Tuesday, Sept. 20 2011, during the morning school assembly the students spoke about the Palestinian statehood bid for the United Nation Council, which would allow Palestine to fully participate in the UN.

Last Thursday Sept. 22 2011 Mr. Shawki traveled to Germany with
a delegation from the municipality of Beit Sahour. While in Germany
the delegation will sign a partnership agreement with Xanten School.
The signing of this partnership helps to achieve one of our major
objectives of having an international cultural exchange program.
This year we have two volunteers, Alma Gast and Courtney Weller, from Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. They will help with English lessons, assist the sport and art teachers and work with the administration office.
On Tuesday, Sept,27 2011, the kindergarten teachers took sixty to the park in Beit Jala called ‘The Duck Park’ where the students can play and enjoy themselves. This day is part of a program called ‘It’s right to play’ for a whole day.

With a generous donation from a church in the USA, last summer we were able to blacktop the basket court ground, in order to make it safer for the students.
This year we have a new science teacher, (instead of Mrs. Shadia Awwad. who resigned after twenty years of teaching. His name is Mr. Baha’ Iahaq. He will teach the classes from 5th –8th grades and 11th -12th grades.
This year we will implement a program called from ‘School to Career’ were the students learn about the Palestinian job market and what is needed for the society. There will be class visits and meetings with the parents so as to teach about the program.
Next month, on October, 8 2011, we will have the election for the student council. There will be a debate between the candidates, during which each will give a presentation in front of the whole student body.
